Our Favorite Grinder
Brewing pretty good coffee at home doesn’t take much: hot water, coffee grounds, a way to mix them… and good luck. But if you don’t want to rely on luck, you’re going to need the right tools. For folks new to the game of making coffee shop level cups at home, our recommendation is two fold: an accurate, reliable scale and this Capresso Burr Grinder. Coffee pros everywhere insist – rightly in our opinion – that an even, reliable grind from seasonally fresh, just roasted beans (like ours) is the surest road to that great cup at home.
There is a lot to love about the Capresso grinder. For starters, it’s accurate, it’s fast, it’s simple and it has 16 different grind sizes from that range from Turkish dust to French press level coarse. It’s also cheaper than other recommended grinders you’ll see around the web. There are many worthy grinders out there, but at $200 or more, they exist more as an overpriced extravagance than a tool for the civic minded thrift miser (…takes one to know one).
The Capresso Burr Grinder currently goes for $75. And here’s a pro tip: get one of the silver ones. At last check, the silver models are a sturdier 6 lbs and they are quieter than the black (and 3 pound) model.
