This is our 19 coffee.
We shipped it on September 18, 2017.
The brewed cup shows off top notes that are floral, citrus and laced with the sweetness of raw sugar. It's really a coffee best had far less than hot. Let it cool off and you'll find some wonderful flavors in there.
Somewhat poetically, this coffee is an uneventful rain at the end of rollicking summer. It's just the thing we need.
With a giving rate of 5.28%, we're donating $5.10 this week. The money has been sent to Against Malaria Foundation.
We sourced this coffee for $5.87, which is 4.62x the market price at the time we bought it.
The coffee this week was grown by a self-sustaining cooperative in Ethiopia which sells to Sweet Maria’s – and that’s who we bought it from for $6.32/lb (after shipping). The co-op’s success is owed somewhat to a government program there that provided financial and agronomic oversight of the cooperatives operations. That NGO’s oversight ha since ceased as the co-op became self-sustaining. It’s an incredibly cool program that Effective Coffee is thrilled be a tiny part of.
This week’s coffee really exemplifies our twin focus. On one hand, it matters to us that we source coffee at prices equitable for farmers first, which happens to also be much higher than industry standard and a strong indicator of top notch quality. Our other focus is committing a growing portion of our revenue to charities that make as much good as possible from every dollar donated. When the former can help fulfill the latter, something special begins to happen.
Thanks for being a part of it.
Since we started in May 2017, we've sold 1027 bags of coffee and donated $1605.27 to highly effective charities.
During that time, we've donated 5.47% from our weekly revenue. A better assessment of our effort is the rolling 4-week donation rate, which is currently 5.94%.
To date, we've sourced our coffee at an average price of $4.56, which is an average of 3.53x above the market at the time of each sourcing purchase.
