This is our 24th coffee.
We shipped it on October 23, 2017.
The brewed cup is subtle and restrained. The top notes are floral, citrus and the sweetness of raw sugar. As the coffee cools off, it really starts to sing out with all the classic flavors of a coffee from Ethiopia.
Somewhat poetically, this coffee is a walk around the neighborhood with your mom.
With a giving rate of 5.44%, we're donating $7.96 this week. The money has been sent to Against Malaria Foundation.
We sourced this coffee for $5.87, which is 4.52x the market price at the time we bought it.
The coffee this week was grown by a self-sustaining cooperative in Ethiopia which sells to Sweet Maria’s – and that’s who we bought it from for $5.87/lb (before shipping). The co-op’s success is owed somewhat to a government program there that provided financial and agronomic oversight of the cooperatives operations. That NGO’s oversight has since ceased as the co-op became self-sustaining. It’s an incredibly cool program that Effective Coffee is thrilled to join our subscribers this week in being a tiny part of it.
Since we started in May 2017, we've sold 1027 bags of coffee and donated $1605.27 to highly effective charities.
During that time, we've donated 5.47% from our weekly revenue. A better assessment of our effort is the rolling 4-week donation rate, which is currently 5.94%.
To date, we've sourced our coffee at an average price of $4.56, which is an average of 3.53x above the market at the time of each sourcing purchase.
