This is our 22 coffee.
We shipped it on October 9, 2017.
The brewed cup is a wild ride and shows a complexity not commonly found in coffees from Costa Rica. The dry grounds smell of all spice and almond, but it transforms once wet into a cup of sweet fruit and a mouth-cleansing brightness. The cooling cup sings out with a fruited cocoa finish. Buckle up.
Somewhat poetically, this coffee is the fresh ear you bring to a song you've heard before, but never on speakers like these and never with rain coming down like this.
With a giving rate of 5.36%, we're donating $6.34 this week. The money has been sent to Against Malaria Foundation.
We sourced this coffee for $5.57, which is 4.01x the market price at the time we bought it.
This coffee is another special one. It comes from farm in Chirripo that belongs to a man named Jose who, along with his brother Jonny, are making big investments in their still nascent operation. They’ve spent the past year building their own small mill, giving them more control over the quality of the finished green coffee beans and moving them up a level on the supply chain, netting them a larger share of the value.
Effective Coffee pays a lot for the green coffee we source. As our subscriber base grows, we’ll be in a good position to keep paying those high prices, and to do so at scale and proximity to farmers like Jose and Jonny that benefits all.
Since we started in May 2017, we've sold 1090 bags of coffee and donated $1670.85 to highly effective charities.
During that time, we've donated 5.47% from our weekly revenue. A better assessment of our effort is the rolling 4-week donation rate, which is currently 5.94%.
To date, we've sourced our coffee at an average price of $4.56, which is an average of 3.53x above the market at the time of each sourcing purchase.
